Hermeneutics Commons Newsletter

For those interested, Hermeneutics Commons now has a newsletter that you can sign up to receive to stay informed about conferences, journals, events, etc. in hermeneutics.  The organizing team consist of John Arthos, Fecundo Bey, Michael Johnson, Fernando Nascimento, Cynthia R. Nielsen, George Taylor, and Barbara Weber.

I am delighted to be part of such a collegial, warm, international, multi-cultural, multi-linguistic, environmentally conscious group of scholars.

The Hermeneutics Commons project originated in 2026 as an effort to seek collaboration to maintain and enhance the vitality of hermeneutics internationally. The project is multi-dimensional, involving both informational and bibliographic resources on its website and support for active involvement in the field. It seeks to encourage active discussion across disciplinary areas and across languages. It promotes open access to its materials to facilitate participation. In addition to its support for hermeneutics as a scholarly field, it promotes hermeneutics as an outward-facing discipline, actively seeking engagement with current and perennial issues facing humanity.

If we are to make substantial progress in these challenging times on the goal of fostering the ongoing growth of the discipline, we will require inventive and effective forms of collaboration and organization across and among multiple institutions, groups, and networks. We who are devoted to the idea that hermeneutics is a scholarly pursuit with an undiminished value for the real world must find new ways to support the flourishing of our students, the dissemination of learning, and the cultivation of new audiences. We envision the commons as a meeting place for inventing, incubating, and promoting these new forms of relation and practice.

Visitors to this website are encouraged to become involved. This is a grass-roots effort of scholars and students that will thrive only with the support and participation of the larger community. This is your site.

The Hermeneutics Commons is an outgrowth of the Hermeneutics in Real Life project (www.hinrl.org), which was itself conceived to elaborate the significance of hermeneutics on “real life” topics.
